TeensHealth is a safe, private place for teens who need honest, accurate information and advice about health, emotions, and life. TeensHealth is accessible 24 hours a day so you can get the doctor-approved information you need to make educated decisions — or help a friend who needs advice. There's a lot of confusing, misleading, and just plain wrong health information on the Web. Our mission is to tell it to you straight.A team of pediatricians and other medical experts reviews all content regularly to ensure the information is as current as possible. That doesn't mean TeensHealth takes the place of an in-person visit with a doctor. Nothing beats a personal consultation with a physician who can get your health history, do a physical exam, and talk with you one-on-one. What TeensHealth can do is help you learn ways to keep your body and mind healthy..

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is
when people at very high risk for HIV take HIV medicines daily to lower
their chances of getting infected. PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold
and spreading throughout the body. It is highly effective for preventing
HIV if used as prescribed, but it is much less effective when not taken
consistently. Daily PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by
more than 90%. Among people who inject drugs, it reduces the risk by
more than 70%. Risk of getting HIV from sex can be even lower by
combining PrEP with condoms and other prevention methods. The CDC
website provides detailed information about PrEP.
