PFLAG is the extended family of the LGBTQI community.
We're made up of LGBTQI individuals, family members and allies. Because together, we're stronger.

Have you asked one of the following questions, or one like it?

What's the best way to tell my family I'm gay?  Will they still love me?

What will dormitory life be like for my gay child?

How can I help make my workplace more LGBTQI friendly?

How can I show support of an LGBTQI loved one?

How can I reconcile my loved one's sexual orientation with my faith?

What specific LGBTQI health topics should I address with my loved one?

Where can I turn to interact with others who share similar experiences?

If so, you're not alone. That's why there's PFLAG Sauk Valley, an organization that provides support and camaraderie so that people don’t have to face those questions alone.

Gatherings

PFLAG meetings and social
gatherings provide an opportunity to learn about relevant services in the area, discuss local and national trends, and share personal experiences. All are welcome.

Support is offered for individuals and families the first Tuesday of every month, unless it's a federal holiday.  This is NOT a formal event; people may arrive any time between 5:00 and 6:30.
Please call 815-408-0604 for location.

Annual Picnic

Held each September at Lowell Park in Dixon, this event commemorates the founding of PFLAG Sauk Valley. All are welcome, even if you've never attended a PFLAG event before.

The picnic also serves as the organization's annual meeting, which highlights goals and accomplishments, but any official business will take 10 minutes or less. :)

National Coming Out Day Dinner-Fundraiser

Held every October, this social event raises funds for the Youth Outlook program and the scholarship fund. It is an evening of fun, friends, and food!

ASK  A  MINISTER: Questions you always wanted to ask...

         ...but never had the chance.

  • Ever get kicked out of Sunday School for asking too many questions?

  • Ever wanted to know something about the Bible but didn’t know who to ask?

  • Wondering what has changed (or not) about church since the last time you went?

  • Would you like to know about churches that are truly, genuinely welcoming?

  • Do you like Jesus but wonder if you’d be welcome at church?

Come and ask a minister!
A panel of Christian ministers from several Protestant denominations will be on hand to listen to your questions and give the best answers they possibly can. Also, there will be food!

Scholarships

LGBT students and LGBT allies may apply for one of the annual college scholarships made available to Sauk Valley area high school students who advocate and educate their schools, communities, themselves and/or their families about human rights, particularly with regard to LGBT issues. Academic persistence, extracurricular activities, and community involvement also factor into the awards. Scholarships are for $500. PFLAG thanks the Barb and George Schwamberger family for their generous support of the scholarship program. High school counselors receive application forms, but forms may also be requested directly:
